We wait for dawn to reveal the light of your bright face;

We wait for dawn to reveal the light of your bright face;
We yearn for your flashing eye, full of mercy and grace.

Wrapped in black night, we suffer our dark despair;
Soon the Sun will rise and dispel our blind disgrace.

The mind’s snarling hunger demands a bloody bone;
O God, may your Silence all the mind’s desire efface!

We have no hope of you but Holy Fire that consumes
Raw spirit, and releases us into your divine embrace.

Lord and Master, have mercy on our witlessness–
May this mumbling by your clear praise be replaced.

A thousand times, we have declared your compassionate
Smile to be the only gift that brings us lasting solace.

Dawn will break and reward Darvish’s longing for
The light and laugh of your brilliant and merciful face!
